Netbook Refection 2013

Life was boring and you couldn’t listen to music and play games during your breaks.
Now that I have a netbook I can learn where some of the some of the continents are in the world. Online games, docs using gedit, copy & past my work so I don’t  have to write my work and having my own blog.
The minus is that sometimes the  internet isn’t working and because of the long repairs.
The Interesting things for me is that I get to do my homework on my netbook.

The Flame Stays Down

Question: How to make a flame stay down?

You can make a flame stay down by blowing it or put something cold over the top.

Kitchen sieve

1.First light the candle
2. Then hold the sieve over the flame

We observed that  the flame did not go through the sieve.

The flame stayed down and did not go through the sieve.

Wax can burn only when it turns into vapour and mixes with oxygen.A candle flame is wax vapour burning. There is wax vapour rising through the wire net when the sieve is held in the candle flame, but there is no heat on the side of the net to set it on fire, as the heat of the candle flame is conducted away by the metal of the sieve. The flame would have passed through the metal lattice only if the lattice had been made red hot through strong heating.

Dear Mr\Horan

Kia ora and greetings. I am Brandon from room 8 and  this letter is to thank you for the amazing Wellington trip.

I thank you for this trip because I have never been on a plane before nor a train.  I  also thank you for taking us to Parliament, to the Carter Observatory and to the Te Papa Museum. I have enjoyed all the activities you and the teachers planned and organized.

The best things I liked about the trip were the ferry ride and the Carter Observatory because we all got to learn more about the Solar System, other planets and the  weather. We got to go to the South Island to eat and play around until it was time to go.

I am grateful that I finally got the opportunity to hop aboard a plane, go to the capital city  and go somewhere that does impressive art work. I have enjoyed these 5 days in Wellington
Thanks for everything you have done  to make this trip possible for us.

Yours sincerely

My Pursuit Of Excellence

My Pursuit of Excellence was to complete Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
I asked my cousin if I could play his Play station 2 and if I could use the cheats for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas only because I didn't like looking for the weapons. Then I put the game on.

In the afternoon I began to play after I finished lunch. I waited for the game to finish loading and  it took a while. As soon as it was loaded I punched in all the cheats for the guns, jet pack and also a car. I started driving super fast to find a mission to complete. When that finished I made things go "KABOOM" with my grenades.
The next day I woke up super early to finish it off but the ps2 was sold. Luckily I saved it in the memory card.
All I was able to do was complete 12 missions and destroy things.

I didn’t get to finish the game but I enjoyed playing and I tried hard to strive for excellence.

Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace is a building in London, England in the UK. This is where the Queen and her family live.
Buckingham Palace is 306 years old and it was built in 1703 and was originally named Buckingham House. This building is made of bricks and wood and glass windows.Buckingham Palace is the official London residence and principal workplace of the British monarch. Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is a setting for state occasions and royal hospitality. It has been a focus for the British people at times of national rejoicing and crisis.

The original early 19th-century interior designs, many of which still survive, included widespread use of brightly coloured scagliola and blue and pink lapis, on the advice of Sir Charles Long. King Edward VII oversaw a partial redecoration in a Belle Époque cream and gold colour scheme. Many smaller reception rooms are furnished in the Chinese regency style with furniture and fittings brought from the Royal Pavilion at Brighton and from Carlton House. The Buckingham Palace Garden is the largest private garden in London. The Palace is 36.6 m long across, 18 m wide and 13.5m high.
Buckingham Palace is special because the magnificent rooms in the Palace are decorated with some of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collection, including paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens and Canaletto. Visitors are also allowed a tour of the Palace.
Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip live at Buckingham Palace.

Devastating Tornadoes

Did you know that tornadoes have been observed on every continent except Antarctica.

Tornadoes often develop from a class of thunderstorms known as supercells.. In addition to tornadoes, very heavy rain, frequent lightning, strong wind gusts, and hail are common in such storms.A tornado is a violently rotating storm that is  disastrous..

They are often referred to as twisters or cyclones, although the word cyclone is used in meteorology. In a wider sense, to name any closed low pressure circulation.Tornadoes come in many shapes and sizes, but they are typically in the form of a visible condensation funnel, whose narrow end touches the earth and is often encircled by a cloud of debris and dust

Did you know that in the USA more than 30 people were killed by a tornado? In the United States they get about 1000 recorded tornadoes every year. About 200 US tornadoes have killed 18 or more people.
Where do tornadoes take place in America? They take place in Tornado alley the most dangerous place in the world
Do you know what kind of damage a tornado can do? A tornado's damage is very disastrous, It can lift people and throw them ten or more meters away. A f5 tornado can even pick up a train, destroy a plane, helicopter and homes in its way. Some people chase storms like tornadoes to find out how to stop them happening. If you are in a house when a tornado strikes the basement is the best and safest place to go. If there is not a basement you should go to a room in the center of the house that has no windows, preferably under heavy furniture or in a bathtub. Take shelter immediately. A basement offers the greatest safety. If underground shelter is not available, move to an interior room without windows on the lowest floor. Get under sturdy furniture and cover yourself with a mattress or blanket. If caught outside, get away from trees if you can. Lie down flat in a nearby gully, ditch or low spot and protect your head. If in a car, get out immediately and look for a safe place to shelter. Do not try to outrun a tornado or get under the vehicle for shelter.Listen to your local radio stations as emergency management officials will be broadcasting the most appropriate advice for your community and situation.Check for injuries and help others if you can, especially people who require special assistance. If your property or contents are damaged take notes and photographs and contact your insurance company. Inform your landlord if there is damage to the rental property.Ask your council for advice on how to clean up debris safely.

My  Reflection:
I learnt from my  research that you shouldn't  try to out run a tornado. I found gathering information hard because some of the information was difficult to understand. My speech was to long because I spoke too slow and I need to have more expression but I showed confidence by standing in front of the class and saying my speech.
